“I was begging for N2m” — Lady calls out surrogate company over N1.3m offer, unfavourable conditions

Following a viral video in which she described her desperate desire to become a surrogate mother six years ago, a Nigerian woman sparked a flurry of internet emotions.

She detailed the harsh, solitary conditions she was expected to endure for ₦1.3 million in the emotional tell-all, accusing surrogacy firms of predatory practices.

The woman, who is now a prosperous businesswoman, used her experience to show the extreme lengths vulnerable women frequently go to in order to survive financially while simultaneously offering divorcees and single mothers a message of hope.

The unidentified woman described the strict terms of the agency’s ₦1.3 million offer in the video.

She claims that the surrogacy arrangement forced her to be totally cut off from her support network for the length of the pregnancy.

Total Compensation: After the baby is born, a final payment of ₦1.3 million.

Monthly Stipend: Throughout the pregnancy, a monthly feeding allowance of ₦50,000.

Relocation Requirement: Remaining solely in lodging supplied by the organization.

Strict Isolation: For the entire nine months, she is not allowed to see her family or receive any visitors.

“How would they offer me 1.3 million Naira to carry a baby? These surrogate companies, they are very wicked,” she stated in the video. “They will carry the baby from me and I’ll go back to the street with stretch marks for 1.3 million Naira.”

The woman gave a very personal explanation for her choice, saying that the incident happened six years ago after a difficult divorce that left her penniless.

She was left to care for two infant boys without any money after abandoning her car, business, and possessions.

She moved to Lagos with the intention of enrolling in a fashion school, leaving her kids in the care of her mother in an effort to start over.

She used surrogacy as a final resort to obtain money after realising she couldn’t afford the education.

She argued for a higher charge of ₦2 million, drawing on her prior difficult pregnancies, including a near-death episode during her second pregnancy that necessitated a blood transfusion.

“I know what it means to be pregnant because I’ve been… I’m a mom of two. I know how I couldn’t sleep for nine months. I was vomiting, the body pain, the discomfort,” she recalled. “Myself, I was begging them [for ₦2 million]. I didn’t want to do all of that for 1.3 million.”

She eventually left the arrangement because the agency would not match her asking price.

The woman concluded the video triumphantly by expressing her sincere gratitude for her financial and personal development since that difficult time.

She mentioned that the ₦1.3 million she used to beg for is now a sum she spends carelessly on jewellery or a plane ticket.

Since then, her story has struck a deep chord with internet users, igniting discussions about protecting vulnerable women and regulating surrogacy in Nigeria.

She concluded her video with a moving statement aimed at women going through comparable struggles:

“If you’re a single mom, if you’re a divorcee, if you’re going through anything, please just know that life will get better for you. Just hang on. Hang on, my darlings.”
