A Nigerian farmer has cried out on social media after a man who allegedly begged him for a job reportedly blocked him after receiving ₦5,000 meant for transportation.

According to the farmer, the man had repeatedly pleaded for employment, explaining that he was struggling to provide for his wife and children. He also claimed he could neither drive a car nor ride a motorcycle but was willing to do any available work.

Moved by his story, the farmer offered him a job with a monthly salary of ₦70,000, including free accommodation and feeding. He also requested the man’s National Identification Number (NIN) as part of the employment process.

Sharing the incident online, the farmer wrote:

“One man chatted me last week begging for a job because he needed to take care of his wife and children. He said he couldn’t drive a car or ride a bike, but he desperately needed work.”

The man was scheduled to resume work on Saturday but later informed the farmer that he had no transport fare to get to the farm.

Out of compassion, the farmer said he transferred ₦5,000 to cover the transportation cost and also asked the man to help purchase a few items on his way.

However, moments after receiving the money, the farmer alleged that the man blocked him on all platforms.

“He said he needed transport money. I took pity on him and sent him ₦5,000 so he could also buy some items for me on his way. The werey blocked me immediately after receiving the money and even deleted the NIN he sent, not knowing I had already saved it.”

The story has since gone viral, with many social media users reacting to the incident. While some sympathised with the farmer, others described the alleged act as another example of how scammers exploit people’s kindness.
