An old Nigerian man has gone viral after accusing a younger woman of rejecting his marriage proposal despite years of financial support, claiming she only realised their age difference when it was time to settle down.

In a video circulating online, the obviously distraught guy said that he financed the woman’s lifestyle, business, and family, only for her to decline when he asked her to marry him.

Expressing his frustration, he said:

“You are collecting my money. I have been supporting your career. I have been paying your rent and giving you money for your business. I have been taking you to restaurants and clubs. I even gave you money to pay your parents’ house rent and supported your brothers and sisters.

“You never thought about my age gap then. Now that I want to settle down with you, you are shy to tell your parents because I am an older man.”

The man then accused the woman of reaping the benefits of their relationship but refusing to commit because of what others might say about their age gap.

He maintained that the woman never expressed concern about their age difference throughout the relationship.

“When I took you shopping, to restaurants and clubs, why didn’t you talk about age gap? Now you are saying people will talk because you want to marry an older man,” he added.

The video has received varied comments online. While some attacked the woman, others contended that financial assistance should not guarantee marriage.

The incident has also rekindled debates on age-gap relationships, dating expectations, and commitment.
