A trauma counsellor and relationship advocate, Christie Bature, has shared her views on marriage and intimacy, drawing from her personal experience of over three decades.
Speaking during an episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast at Glitch Africa Studios, Bature explained that her understanding of intimacy goes beyond the physical aspect. “I have maintained purity with my husband for 32 years of marriage,” she said.
She explained that purity is not merely about avoiding infidelity, but it is about understanding a deeper spiritual philosophy wherein marital intimacy is considered a form of worship directed toward God within a covenant marriage.
According to her, this statement reflects a deeper commitment built on trust, respect, and shared values within the marriage. She noted that for her, intimacy is not just about physical connection, but also about emotional connection and spiritual bonding between partners.
Bature explained that maintaining discipline, consistency, respect and commitment in marriage helps strengthen the relationship over time. She added that when both partners are focused on mutual respect and understanding, it creates a stable and lasting union.
She also pointed out that many challenges in modern relationships today come from a lack of clear values and communication. According to her, couples who build their marriage on strong principles and focus on mutual respect are more likely to maintain stable homes.
Speaking further, she noted that intimacy should not be seen or approached as a casual aspect of marriage, but as something that requires responsibility and intentional effort from both partners.
Her comments have contributed to ongoing discussions about marriage, commitment, and the importance of shared values in building lasting relationships.
