2027: “During my NYSC you were an aspirant” – Datti blasts Atiku’s presidential move

Former Labour Party vice presidential candidate Datti Baba Ahmed has disclosed that Atiku Abubakar began nurturing presidential ambitions during his NYSC days.

During an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, Baba Ahmed urged Atiku to step down and let younger Nigerians with new ideas to take over the political landscape.

According to him, Atiku’s political style is expensive and discouraging for young politicians who sincerely want to fix Nigeria’s problems.

“When I was doing my NYSC, Baba Atiku was an aspirant and in 2018, we contested primaries together. In 2023 we contested again, I as a vice president elsewhere when his vice president had left him. For God’s sake in 2027 again? he said.

Baba Ahmed stressed that Nigeria urgently requires a new generation of leaders, which already exist.

“There is the need for a new generation of Nigerian leaders and they do exist. A whole new generation is waiting for a new leader to lead them to a new party,” he added.

He also blasted the political system, calling it hostile to young, capable Nigerians.

“There are people capable of solving Nigerian problems, but they are discouraged by the expensive, difficult, treacherous system full of godfathers and bad promises.”

Political heavyweights including Chibuike Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State, and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, are also members of the ADC.

Discussions concerning age, political recycling, and whether Nigeria is genuinely prepared for fresh leadership have been rekindled by Datti Baba Ahmed’s remarks.

The conflict between established political figures and a younger generation is undoubtedly intensifying as 2027 draws near.
