A Nigerian man has recounted how his girlfriend, a nurse who once supported him financially and bought him his first Samsung phone, broke his heart by marrying his friend while he was in university.

He said their relationship started around 2012 or 2013, when the woman was in charge of the health centre in his community. According to him, she supported his education and even gave him her ATM card to pay for his admission.

However, things changed after he gained admission to university and became focused on his studies.

He explained that he had vowed not to date anyone on campus until he graduated, but his girlfriend reportedly became insecure, fearing that other women had taken her place.

The man said he was shocked when his cousin called to tell him that his girlfriend’s traditional wedding was scheduled to hold in a week.

He initially did not believe the news until he saw pictures from the ceremony.

According to him, he later found out that the woman had married his friend, who used to visit her at the health centre whenever he returned from Onitsha, where he traded.

The revelation left him devastated. He said he rushed home, wept and tore his shirt after learning what had happened.

He said his family members were already aware of the situation and were ready to console him.

His father advised him to focus on loving himself, finishing his education and building a better future, rather than dwelling on the painful end of the relationship.

Although it was difficult to move on, he said he took his father’s advice and stayed single until he finished university and started working.

He added that he finally ended his period of being single on January 11, 2020.
