“You sold suffering as soft life” – UK-based man’s wife cries out over their living conditions in UK after relocation

A Nigerian woman has lamented the harsh living conditions she and her two children allegedly met after joining her husband in the United Kingdom, three years after he relocated abroad.

The experience was shared by an X user, @TeeMento, who claimed to be friends with the woman’s husband and narrated how the family’s relocation turned out differently from what they had envisaged.

According to @TeeMento, the man had spent years posting pictures of beautiful locations, new iPhones, Tesco shopping and train rides on social media while urging his friends to leave Nigeria.

The X user said the man eventually invited his wife and two children to join him in the UK last month.

Friends reportedly celebrated the family’s relocation and even threw a surprise party for them before their departure.

However, @TeeMento claimed that the woman reached out to them privately two weeks after arriving in the UK, raising concerns about their living conditions.

Recounting the conversation, the X user said the woman asked them to find out where her husband had taken the family.

The woman reportedly explained that she, her husband and their two children were sharing a single room with two other men from her husband’s village.

She also claimed that they slept on the floor and shared a toilet with eight people.

Describing the situation, she reportedly said:

“We are in one room. Me, my husband, my two kids, and two other guys from his village. We sleep on the floor. He shares one toilet with 8 people. He works 18 hours as a cleaner and security. The house is full of mold.”

She also alleged that her husband had spent four months sleeping in his car before the family joined him.

She said the glamorous photos he kept sharing online were only taken at scenic spots on his days off, giving the false impression that he was enjoying a comfortable life abroad.

She reportedly told @TeeMento:

“All those fine pictures were on his day off, at random fine streets.”

The woman also revealed that her husband allegedly borrowed £4,000 to bring her and their children to the UK.

She expressed disappointment at the family’s situation, saying they were now worse off than they were in Nigeria, where they previously lived in a two-bedroom flat.

In her words:

“We are worse than we were in Lagos. In Lagos we had a 2-bedroom flat. Here we are begging to breathe.”

@TeeMento claimed that the woman’s husband later called angrily, accusing his wife of ruining his image by revealing their living conditions.

He reportedly insisted that she should be patient because everyone goes through difficult times when they first relocate abroad.

However, the X user said they challenged him for allegedly giving friends a false impression of his life in the UK.

The narrator recalled telling him:

“But you lied. You sold suffering as soft life.”

The man reportedly responded:

“If I told the truth, who will respect me?”

Reflecting on the experience, @TeeMento said the incident made them realise that some Nigerians living abroad might be struggling despite the glamorous pictures they share online.Buy Maps

The post has drawn attention to the pressure some people may feel to present a successful image after relocating, even when their actual living conditions are difficult.
