Gunmen have att@cked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, located near Jos in Plateau State, k!lling two soldiers and a police officer.

The att@ckers reportedly stormed the facility around 11:40 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, opening fire on security personnel stationed at the gate of the institute. This led to a guπ battle between the a$$ailants and security operatives.

The victims were said to be on duty at the staff quarters when the att@ck took place.

Osime Samuel, Head of Public Affairs at the institute, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, though he did not provide full details of the casualties or circumstances.

“The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, wishes to inform the public that a security incident occurred in the vicinity of the Institute in the early hours of today,” he said.

He added that the situation was quickly brought under control following a swift response from security personnel.

“There is currently no th√eat to the safety of participants, staff, residents, or facilities of the Institute. Normal activities are continuing as scheduled.”

The management of NIPSS also stated that security agencies have begun investigations to determine what led to the att@ck.

“NIPSS is working closely with the appropriate authorities and will provide verified information as soon as it becomes available. We urge members of the public and the media to rely on official communications from the Institute and relevant security agencies,” Dr Samuel said.

“The Management of NIPSS remains committed to the safety and security of all members of the Institute community and appreciates the professionalism of the security personnel and agencies involved in the response.”

However, reports indicate that the guπmen may have targeted the residences of the Acting Director of Studies, Barrister Nima Salman-Mann, and a Directing Staff, Professor Haruna Dabin.

According to sources, the targeted staff had earlier received handwritten notes placed on their doors demanding $100,000 and ₦15 million each, and the matter had been reported to management.

A source, speaking anonymously, said the security personnel were k!lled during an exchange of guπfire with the att@ckers.

“During the day, local security watch the staff quarters. At night, soldiers and police are deployed to provide security in the area. It is believed that the att@ckers came to the houses of the staff they earlier sent notes demanding money from them,” the source said.

The bodies of the deceased security personnel have since been deposited at the mortuary.
