EPL: Estevao shines as Chelsea ride Palmer absence to beat 10-man Palace

At Selhurst Park, Chelsea easily defeated Crystal Palace in the Premier League, overcoming Cole Palmer’s injury to get back into the top four.

When Jean-Philippe Mateta broke through on goal, Palace had a strong start and was on the verge of taking the lead.

However, Mateta fired directly at Robert Sanchez. Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo answered for Chelsea, but in the 34th minute, 18-year-old Estevao Willian broke the impasse.

Estevao put the visitors ahead by bursting past Tyrick Mitchell and driving a low finish past Dean Henderson, taking advantage of a bad back-pass from Jaydee Canvot.

Before halftime, the Brazilian winger continued to have an impact by putting Palace’s defence to the test with his agility and straight running.

Early in the second half, Chelsea tightened their hold. Joao Pedro, who danced away from Adam Wharton and finished through Henderson to make it 2-0, was given a precise feed by Estevao.

Canvot was deemed to have handled Joao Pedro’s goalbound shot, and Chelsea was given a penalty after a VAR review.

To increase the lead and eliminate any uncertainty about the result, Fernandez converted with assurance.

Wharton was sent out after receiving two yellow cards for consecutive fouls on Caicedo in less than six minutes, ending Palace’s hopes of a comeback.

In the 88th minute, Chris Richards scored a late consolation goal from a corner, but it had little effect on the game’s outcome.

Palace dropped from 13th to 15th place in the standings, but they are still eight points above the relegation zone.

For the first time since November, Chelsea has won back-to-back Premier League games under new head coach Liam Rosenior.

Despite having played one more game than Manchester United, Chelsea overtook Liverpool to return to the top four.
