A POS operator was heartbroken after losing ₦40,000 due to a scam.

An X user, @Julius_Chinwe, shared an event in which a man approached the POS operator and claimed to be in a rush to withdraw ₦40,000.

According to reports, the suspect gave the necessary transaction information and was given the POS device to enter his PIN.

The individual allegedly altered the transaction, lowering the withdrawal amount from ₦40,000 to ₦4,000 without the operator’s knowledge.

The operator gave over the full ₦40,000 in cash, confident in the transaction’s success.

Shortly afterwards, an alert verified that just ₦4,000 had been taken out. The suspect had already taken off on a motorcycle when the operator realised she had been duped.

“A POS lady just lost 40k now.

The guy came to withdraw 40k that he’s in a hurry, after she put in the details she gave him the machine to enter his pin, bros deleted a zero and transacted for 4k, when the successful message came up she counted his 40k and gave him.

The guy left with bike immediately then alert came in and it was 4k instead of 40k😞
