Samuel Shekwolo, the chairman of the Kuje Area Council, has sparked controversy by advising locals who oppose the All Progressives Congress to quit the council before the 2027 polls.

Shekwolo made the statement while addressing his people and supporters in a video that was posted on social media on Tuesday.

He connected his stance to the development initiatives that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and President Bola Tinubu were implementing in Kuje.

Residents who profit from the administration’s initiatives shouldn’t vote against the APC, according to the chairman of the council.

Shekwolo publicly stated that those who disagreed with the APC had no business serving on the council.

“I have said in my area council, it’s either you are doing APC or leave the area council; I’m not hiding that. With confidence, I’m saying it.

“You know why, I cannot have President and Minister doing what they are doing and on the day of election, you will want to match me. It’s either you are with us, or you are out,” he said.

As political activity starts to pick up steam ahead of the general elections in 2027, his remarks have drawn notice.

Concerns regarding political tolerance and locals’ freedom to support the parties of their choice have also been brought up by the statement.

The Osun East Senatorial District representative, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, is embroiled in a different scandal at the time of Shekwolo’s remarks.

A video of Fadahunsi speaking to APC supporters in Ilesa prior to the August 15, 2026, governorship election went viral, drawing criticism.

Before the election, he was apparently heard threatening to murder Accord Party members who were spotted in Ilesa.

Political figures and civil society organisations condemned the comments. Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, also demanded that the senator be detained and investigated.

Fadahunsi later denied making threats of violence on members of the Accord.

He clarified that rather than physically assaulting the party’s supporters, he was talking to defeating it through voting.

The Osun State Police Command thereafter invited and questioned the senator on the contentious statement.

As parties get ready for the 2027 elections, the Kuje chairman’s most recent comments have increased worries about provocative political utterances.

In the February 2026 FCT Area Council election, Shekwolo was elected chairman of the Kuje Area Council on the APC platform.

According to the returning officer’s results, he received 17,269 votes to win the election.
