“Don’t lower your standard” – FUTA First-Class graduate shares ‘unexpected’ response she got after applying for a job in Lagos

A first-class graduate of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has gone viral online after sharing the unexpected response she received from a clinic in Lagos following a job application.

The story gained traction after a social media user identified as @_raesparkles posted a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation involving her friend’s application experience.

According to the post, the graduate was hoping to relocate to Lagos for work and had applied for a position at a clinic.

“My friend wanted to come work in Lagos so she applied to a clinic and she got this response,” the post stated.

A screenshot shared online showed the clinic politely declining the application while encouraging the candidate to pursue bigger opportunities.

The message reportedly read:

> “Hey Linda. First class hons? There is something better for you. Please don’t lower your standard. All the best.”

The response quickly drew widespread attention on social media because of its unusual and encouraging tone.

According to details shared in the post, the applicant, Linda Omotayo Aisida, studied Physiology at FUTA and graduated with first-class honours on November 12, 2024.

The exchange has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many users debating whether the clinic’s response was a compliment, a missed opportunity, or an indication of the graduate’s perceived overqualification for the role.
