“Don’t ever tell me i’m shouting” — MamaPee speaks out on Nigeria’s daily struggles

MamaPee, a Nigerian activist, has spoken out passionately about the ongoing issues that individuals experience across the country, expressing displeasure with substandard healthcare, strikes, and systemic inefficiencies.

She chastised people who dismiss her outspokenness as “shouting,” claiming that her feelings derive from her experiences of poverty and injustice.

MamaPee detailed Nigerians’ daily challenges, emphasising the lack of access to doctors, limited funding for crucial drugs, and the catastrophic repercussions for vulnerable groups.

If you never go to the hospital and you don’t have money to pay for drugs, and there’s no doctor to attend to you because they are on strike… don’t tell me I’m shouting. You don’t know how it feels to be in a system that does not work,” she said.

She went on to explain the human toll these challenges have had, claiming that she has blocked 5,000 people who have wrongly criticised her for her outspokenness.

MamaPee stressed that her aims are not to elicit pity, but to draw attention to Nigerians’ daily hardship.

She also discussed her political activism, stressing that she advocates for Peter Obi out of conviction rather than personal obligation, stating, “Peter Obi is my hope.”
