A woman has revealed how a routine DNA test nearly ended her marriage after doctors found her twin boys had different biological fathers.

She shared on an Instagram post by @turbanbyaipearl that she and her husband Daniel welcomed the twins after five years of infertility struggles and successful IVF treatment. Three years later, trouble struck when one of the boys had genetic testing for a hereditary blood disorder.

“The genetic specialist looked at us and said, ‘The twins does not share the same biological father.’ I felt like the air had vacuumed out of the room,” she recalled.

Her husband was devastated by the outcome. Despite her insistence that he was the only man she had ever dated, he left their marriage because he was convinced she had cheated.

The woman wanted papers from the reproductive clinic where the IVF operation was performed because she was determined to find out the truth. After a young embryologist reportedly divulged private documents, she later found an internal error.

The documents state that during the IVF procedure, one embryo was inadvertently stolen from another family, while the other embryo belonged to the couple.

She further stated that the clinic allegedly changed documents rather than acknowledging the error, even though it was found months after the delivery.

“My son Ethan was biologically mine and Daniel’s. Caleb was biologically the child of two strangers. Somewhere nearby, another little boy was genetically ours,” she added.

Later, the couple and the other impacted family filed a lawsuit against the reproductive facility. The woman claimed that after the scandal, the facility finally closed.

Online comments to the article have been emotive; many have called for more stringent regulation of fertility facilities and described it as tragic.
