An Akwa Ibom High Court has sentenced a pastor, Prince Emmanuel Umoh, to death by hanging for the brutal murder of a final-year Engineering student at the University of Uyo, Gabriel Bassey Edward.

According to LIB, Umoh, a resident pastor of Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners Chapel, married Edward in December 2020 at his residence, Ifa Ikot Ubo-Ifa Ikot Okpon in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The 23-year-old received a First-Class degree, according to academic results released following his death.

In response to the punishment, human rights lawyer Inihebe Effiong congratulated the prosecutor and recommended churches to conduct comprehensive screening of persons they plan to ordain as ministers.
