The Kano Hisbah Board has arrested nine Muslims for allegedly eating in public on the first day of Ramadan.

Mujahid Aminudeen, Hisbah’s Deputy Commander, announced in a statement that the suspects, who included two women and seven men, were apprehended on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

He added that they were detained after being seen consuming meals in broad daylight, which violated the fasting regulations.

“We arrested them and they are with us, where we will teach them the importance of fasting, how to pray and read the Qur’an, and how to become good Muslims,” says Aminudeen.

He did not, however, specify when the arrested individuals will be released.
