A housewife named Fatima Ishaq was remanded in custody by a Shari’a Court in Kano due to accusations that she killed and p0!.soned her stepson, who was 1.5 years old.

The report states that the child entered the defendant’s room and quickly came out with p0!.son in his mouth, which caused his d£•th.

The charge of culpable homicide was read by Barrister Mutawakil, the prosecuting attorney.

However, the defendant entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.

The presiding judge, Abdu Abdullahi Wayya, used the Islamic legal process known as Qasama because there were no prosecution witnesses.

The complainant refused to take the judge’s request to affirm the accusation by swearing fifty times on the Holy Qur’an.

In contrast, the defendant consented to take the oath in order to establish her innocence.

In order to continue the proceedings and administer the oath formally, the court postponed the case until January 22, 2026. Until the adjourned date, the defendant will stay in custody.
