A Nigerian woman identified as @hy_wemmy on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked reactions online after recounting an encounter with a man who approached her for her phone number while she was walking in the rain.
According to the woman, she was walking in the rain when a car began following her. She initially paid little attention to the vehicle, but the driver eventually came out and approached her.
Man reportedly insists on getting her number
The woman explained that the car owner asked for her phone number. Although she initially declined, citing the rain and the circumstances surrounding the encounter, she eventually gave him her number after he reportedly insisted.
However, days after the encounter, she said the man had neither called nor sent her a message.
Lady questions his intentions
Frustrated by the experience, the woman took to X to question why someone would go to such lengths to obtain a woman’s contact details without making any effort to communicate afterwards.
She wrote:> “You will stress yourself to get a woman’s number and then do absolutely nothing with it. Are you people looking for someone to talk to or just looking for an ego boost?”
Her post has drawn attention online, with the encounter prompting discussions about dating, approaching strangers, communication and the intentions behind asking for someone’s phone number.
While some may view the incident as an example of unnecessary attention-seeking, others may argue that asking for a number does not necessarily create an obligation to pursue a relationship.
Story Sparks Reactions…..
Deman wrote, “The chase ended the moment he got the number. Once the rain stopped, so did the effort”
Willin noted, “You dey stress man wey get ride, that alone says it all”.
Greatice inquired, “The reason why he didn’t call is because of the stress you put him through before giving him your number, men have ego too you know?”.
Chris Great added, “If you have to do a whole stunt to get a woman’s number, at least have the decent intent to use it. Running through the rain just to collect digits for your ego is childish. Don’t waste people’s time”.
