APC praise singer Rarara berates Davido over global campaign for abducted Oyo schoolchildren

Afrobeats musician Davido has come under fire from APC praise singer Dauda Kahutu Rarara for choosing to draw attention to the predicament of kidnapped teachers and students from Oyo State during a significant international gathering.

The controversy stems from Davido’s performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles, when he wore a tailored jacket with the words “Bring Them Home” and the names of kidnapped students and instructors on it.

Rarara responded in a social media video by accusing the musician of politicising a delicate security matter and bringing Nigeria’s domestic problems to the attention of the world.

He claims that making the kidnapping situation public on a global scale could have a detrimental impact on security authorities’ attempts to secure the victims’ release.

Read what he said below;

“What Davido exhibited was a crude behaviour. How can you go and expose Nigeria’s secrets to the world? Why will he give publicity to insurgents?

The insurgents kidnapped these students to force the security operatives to release their people, and our government is insisting on not releasing them while trying to free the children. At this critical stage, he went to expose our security issue globally during the World Cup

Just because his uncle is vying for re-election in an opposition party and Tinubu is in the APC, he printed the names of the kidnapped students and went to showcase them in America. What he did was akin to derobing one’s mother and taking a picture and publicly announcing it in the marketplace

When you have a huge following on social media and provide a platform for insurgent activities, it only makes things worse. If a small kidnapper abducts someone and little attention is paid, once a content creator with thousands of followers repost it, bigger insurgents may become involved, making the situation worse”

Many Nigerians, who saw Davido’s move as a cry for increased awareness and urgency over the fate of the abducted victims, had already praised it and given it significant attention.
