Woman Sparks Reactions After Rainmakers Allegedly Demand ₦20,000 From Family at Burial Ceremony

A Nigerian woman has stirred conversations online after narrating an unusual experience at a burial ceremony, where individuals claiming to control rainfall allegedly demanded money from the deceased’s family.

The woman, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @LouisaChidima, explained that the individuals approached the family during the funeral proceedings and requested ₦20,000.

According to her account, the deceased’s children refused to meet the financial demand, prompting the visitors to threaten that rainfall would disrupt the burial ceremony.

She further disclosed that approximately one hour after the confrontation, a heavy downpour began, creating panic among those attending the funeral.

The woman recalled that the intensity of the rainfall became so alarming that the canopy she was holding with her husband nearly got blown away.

However, she claimed that the downpour lasted for about 20 minutes before eventually stopping.

Describing the experience, she expressed amazement at how events unfolded, insisting that she witnessed the entire incident firsthand.

Her account has attracted mixed reactions on social media, with several users sharing their opinions and recounting similar experiences at burial ceremonies.

Reacting to the story, an X user identified as Rukvewe questioned whether the individuals involved now demand such substantial amounts from grieving families.

Another commenter, Shirley, criticised their activities, describing them as a longstanding nuisance during funeral ceremonies.

Franklyn, however, suggested that the family should have complied with the demand to avoid disruption from the rainfall.

Meanwhile, Akwaugo sought clarification about how the woman’s husband and other attendees managed to cope with the heavy downpour.

Sharing a similar experience, Mateo recalled that individuals had made a comparable demand during his father’s burial but said he refused to entertain their request, adding that one of them eventually gave up after waiting for him to change his mind.

The incident has reignited online conversations about alleged rainmakers and the unusual demands grieving families sometimes encounter during burial ceremonies.
