A Nigerian woman, Orie Azu Udu, has shared a bizarre account of an incident she claims she witnessed at a burial ceremony, saying the experience made her stop attending funerals.

According to Udu, she once accompanied a friend to her paternal aunt’s burial in their father’s village, where she allegedly witnessed something she could not explain.

She claimed that the deceased woman’s body was still at the mortuary but that some of her friends appeared to be present at the burial ceremony. According to her, the women allegedly participated in the activities, including eating from the buffet and visiting the graveside.

Udu said the incident became even more disturbing when she allegedly witnessed what she described as a possible case of spiritual possession involving a woman who was mourning near the grave.

Sharing the account on Facebook, she wrote:

“I have my reasons for not attending burials anymore. I once followed a friend to her aunt’s burial. She was her paternal aunt so we travelled to her father’s village.

“On the day of the burial, I saw wetin I no understand. The late aunt and her friends who were still at the morgue were in attendance.

“Their body still deh mortuary but they joined in the burial. They also dished out food from the buffet settings. I couldn’t drink water or eat. They even joined in seeing her grave.

“They hugged her and left. Something happened, after hugging her friends while the pastor was still preaching, she; the dead body moved into a lady who was crying close to grave.

“That was the last time I attended a burial. People get possessed on burial events. I asked my friend that day… does this your aunt has anyone that look exactly like her?, she said mope and I went mute.”

Her account generated mixed reactions online, with some users questioning the authenticity of the experience while others shared stories they believed were similar.

Another Facebook user, Omekannaya Oyinna, said she was inclined to believe Udu’s account because of an incident she claimed occurred at her own father’s funeral.

According to Oyinna, her father died after battling a mental illness, and during his funeral, a woman reportedly used a microphone to claim that his lack of belief in God had caused his illness.

Oyinna alleged that the woman subsequently developed a mental illness herself and has continued to suffer from it to date.

The claims have sparked debate online, with users offering different interpretations of the accounts and questioning the events described.
