The Enugu State Government has confirmed the arrest of a woman identified as Ogechi John over the alleged k!lling of her stepdaughter.

Mrs. John, who is said to be from Oderiko in Ebonyi State, was reportedly arrested by police on Monday morning, May 11, 2026, for allegedly b3ating her 9-year-old stepdaughter, Ogechi Amanda John, to d3ath at their residence in the Nchatancha area of Emene, Enugu.

According to neighbours, the incident allegedly occurred around 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 10. Residents also claimed that the child had allegedly been subjected to repeated maltr3atment by her stepmother prior to the incident.

Reacting to the development, Ngozi Enih expressed anger over the incident and stated that the state government would pursue justice in the matter.

Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the case.
