Personnel of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State, have arrested a woman for allegedly attempting to smuggle substances suspected to be a psychoactive d√ug into the correctional facility.

The Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service disclosed the development in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Odukoya Olayinka.

According to Olayinka, the suspect was arrested at about 1:33 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, during a routine screening exercise at the entrance of the custodial centre.

The woman had reportedly visited an inmate on death row when correctional officers discovered a sachet of Milo beverage allegedly containing a substance suspected to be “colos.”

The suspected contraband was reportedly detected during the standard screening process at the facility’s main gate.

The command said the discovery demonstrated the vigilance of its personnel and its commitment to preventing illicit substances and other prohibited items from being brought into custodial facilities.

Following her arrest, the suspect was handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.

The Controller of Corrections, Ogun State Command, Kamoru Adesina, commended the officers involved for their alertness and professionalism.

He also reiterated the Service’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and other criminal activities within custodial facilities.

Adesina stressed that correctional centres were established to facilitate the reformation and rehabilitation of inmates and must not be allowed to become channels for the circulation of illicit substances.

The command warned members of the public against attempting to compromise the security of correctional facilities by introducing prohibited items.

It added that anyone found engaging in such acts would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
