Nigerian singer Fave has discussed what she considers to be the extra difficulties that female musicians encounter when attempting to make a name for themselves in the music business.

The singer claims that in addition to their musical prowess, female singers are frequently evaluated based on their physical attributes, attire, and perceived attractiveness.

According to Fave, female musicians may be scrutinised for their bodies and attire, with focus occasionally shifting from their music to how they are viewed sexually.

“It’s harder for female artists to blow. Female artists aren’t measured by talent but by what they wear. If your tummy isn’t flat… it’s never really about the music; it’s more about people’s sexual desires or their fantasies about you.”

She regarded this as an issue, stating that female musicians may experience pressure to fulfilll certain aesthetic requirements before receiving sufficient recognition for their music.

“And I think that right there is a problem, because it becomes more about how decently you are dressed before people listen to you.”

Additionally, Fave contended that male artists do not face the same degree of scrutiny regarding their appearance.

“But when it comes to men, they aren’t held to that same standard.”

The singer further expressed confidence in the performance abilities of female artistes, adding:

“When it comes to performances, female artists perform better.”
