The tough financial realities of Nigeria’s film industry are the reason why veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola does not live as opulently as some of her peers.

In a recent interview, the well-known actress refuted the notion that many actresses may get wealthy solely via performing.

She claims that payments from movie platforms like Africa Magic and similar sources are frequently insufficient to support opulent lives.

“We hear stories of some actresses who do things with politicians for money. So when people ask me why I am not rich like the others, I tell them to go ask them what other jobs they do,” Akintola said.

She said, “Those who are familiar with the industry understand how modest movie earnings can be.” adding, “Because we know how much Africa Magic and other platforms pay for a movie.”

The public frequently misinterprets the real sources of income in the entertainment sector, according to Akintola, who has spent decades establishing a strong career in Nollywood.

She clarified that acting fees alone are insufficient to support many of the ostentatious lifestyles portrayed on social media.
