Nigerian singer, Mr Eazi, has opened up about why he rarely listens to music by fellow artist, Burna Boy.
The Skin Tight crooner said he wants to protect his own sound from being affected by the Grammy-winning star’s style.
Speaking during the Afropolitan Podcast, Mr Eazi explained that his decision is not connected to hatred or any problem with Burna Boy. According to him, he admires the singer greatly but chooses to stay away from his songs because of the effect they could have on his creativity.
The music star said both of them have similar deep vocal tones, making it easy for him to unconsciously begin sounding like Burna Boy if he listens to his music too often. He explained that Burna Boy’s style is powerful and could naturally influence the way he records songs without him even noticing it.
Mr Eazi added that he prefers to protect the originality of his music by limiting how much of Burna Boy’s work he consumes. He said he does not want listeners to feel his sound is drifting away from the unique style that made him popular.
He said, “I don’t like listening to Burna Boy’s songs. I’ve said it before, I don’t want my music to start sounding like his. I Don’t Want My Sound to Drift.”
The two singers have collaborated in the past on the song ‘Miss You Bad’ from Mr Eazi’s 2018 project Life Is Eazi, Vol. 2 – Lagos To London.
