Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has advised people to carefully consider the consequences of their actions before making life-altering decisions.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the actor explained that people who engage in similar behavior may not face the same consequences due to differences in their circumstances and available resources.

“What favours Mr. A might not favour Mrs. B. People don’t always face the same social consequences for the same behaviour. The behaviour is the same, but the consequences are different,” he said.

Using relationships as an example, Chiwetalu emphasized that men and women can face different social consequences for similar decisions, urging people to be mindful of which path they take.

He also discussed how financial differences can influence how people cope when their actions go wrong, noting that two people who engage in the same behavior may have very different options for dealing with the consequences.

“Don’t assume that because someone is doing something, that you will both suffer the consequences equally. We are all humans, but some humans have more to lose than the others.

Always learn to look before you leap. Before you act, think about the consequences of your action. Think beyond the moment,” he added.

Chiwetalu’s message has elicited responses online, with some debating the role of circumstances, resources, and personal responsibility in the outcomes people face.

He urged people to think about how much they could suffer if their decisions went wrong and whether they have the resources to recover, emphasizing that wisdom entails knowing what one cannot afford to do.
