“We’ll Hit Iran Hard”—Trump Vows Retaliation After Missile, Drone Attacks On US Bases In Jordan, UAE
US President Donald Trump has warned that Washington will respond forcefully after Iran launched missile and drone attacks against American military positions in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
Speaking to Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst on Monday, Trump said the United States would retaliate against Tehran.
“We’re going to hit them hard. There will be a response,” the US President stated.
Trump explained that American air defence systems successfully intercepted most of the missiles fired at US forces in Jordan. He added that one missile was deliberately not intercepted after military officials assessed that it was unlikely to cause significant damage.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the missile and drone strikes, describing them as retaliation for a US military attack on Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday.
According to the IRGC, the operation targeted the King Hussein and Al Azraq airbases in Jordan. Jordanian authorities said its air defence systems intercepted eight missiles that entered the country’s airspace. Iranian officials, however, claimed the attacks inflicted substantial damage on the military installations.
Tehran also claimed that drones were launched toward Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE, where American military personnel are stationed. The UAE denied that the facility was attacked, saying instead that its forces intercepted a drone approaching from Iran over its territorial waters.
The latest confrontation followed a US operation on Sunday targeting two Iranian rocket launchers positioned on Larak Island.
US Central Command said the launchers represented an immediate threat because they were allegedly preparing to fire rockets carrying sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for the transportation of oil and gas.
The strategic waterway has remained a major source of tension between Washington and Tehran, with both countries accusing the other of undermining freedom of navigation.
Trump also raised doubts about the possibility of restarting diplomatic negotiations with Iran. Although he acknowledged that Tehran appeared interested in talks, he questioned whether the Iranian government could be trusted to negotiate and honour an agreement.
He further said the economic sanctions imposed by Washington were continuing to place pressure on Iran.
“The pressure is working. They want to talk, but can you trust them? That’s the question,” Trump said.
The President did not reveal when or how the United States would respond. He said the Pentagon and National Security Council were currently assessing possible options.
The latest exchange represents the most significant direct military confrontation between the United States and Iran in more than a month.
