A Nigerian lady sparked outrage online after calling on religious leaders to take action against the current situation of insecurity and hardship under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In a popular video posted on X (previously Twitter) by @AsakyGRN, she asked pastors and imams to go beyond prayers and instead join residents in peaceful rallies against hardship and insecurity.
Read she said below:
“Pastors, imams, everyone, come out. Let us march the streets of Nigeria. You people should lead us, we will follow. We come to church every day, we go to the mosques every day. You lead us in prayers to a God we don’t see, but we have faith because we believe.”
She also expressed dissatisfaction with the administration, claiming that residents increasingly look to religious leaders for guidance during times of crisis.
The lady also questioned why protests held during previous President Goodluck Jonathan’s government are not taking place presently, despite what she characterised as deteriorating conditions.
“Now that the government is failing, you are our leaders, march in front. We don’t need celebrities, you are our celebrities. Why is nobody marching now?
The condition of this country is worse than when Goodluck was here. Are we being selective? Let them march, I will come out. We need to march behind someone with the anointing that can protect us. Or have you been compromised?” she added.
Her remark elicited varied reactions online, with some Nigerians supporting her call to action and others arguing that religious leaders should not be involved in political protests.
