Drama as man refuses to leave bank branch over alleged ₦5m stuck funds, demands answers from staff

On Monday, a man raised a disturbance at a Guarantee Trust Bank branch on CMD Road by claiming that the bank had withheld his ₦5 million for two weeks. Customers and employees in the banking hall took notice.

When the client confronted bank employees inside the branch and insisted he had been unable to access his assets despite numerous efforts, the situation allegedly got worse.

According to eyewitnesses, he was clearly furious, drawing the attention of other customers who stopped transactions to watch.

The individual made it clear during the altercation that he would not leave the banking hall until his grievance was resolved. He stated:

You want to seize my phone? Madam, you want to seize my phone? If you like, call God. I’m not leaving here today until you answer me and return my 5 million naira.”

While other clients warily carried out their transactions, bank employees were observed trying to defuse the tension.

At the time of publishing, officials did not immediately confirm the cause of the purported delay.

The episode has contributed to ongoing discussions concerning financial institutions’ customer service experiences, especially with regard to transaction delays and dispute resolution.

Online discussions around accountability and customer-bank communication have been sparked by similar incidents.

Even though the order was subsequently recovered, it was unclear if the customer’s claim had been clarified or if the issue had been handled.

After exiting the branch, many patrons were left talking about their experiences.
