A viral video has emerged online depicting a highly contested incident in which agents purportedly affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) were seen throwing loaves of bread to civilians in Ekiti State.

In the brief film, a campaign truck is seen driving slowly down a major road, conspicuously displaying a giant banner with the image of the state governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

Inside the van, many people are busily flinging loaves of bread into the passing crowd.

The image elicited diverse reactions on the ground: while some anxious observers raced forward to take the food, many others appeared unconcerned, standing motionless and going about their business.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that this contentious episode occurred at a vital political moment, as the highly anticipated Ekiti State off-cycle governorship election is set to take place tomorrow, Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already approved 14 political parties to compete in the election across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas.

The APC’s incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji is vying for a second term, but he is up against heavy challenge from the opposition.

Critics on social media swiftly condemned the bread-sharing episode, calling it a humiliating kind of “stomach infrastructure”—a term used in Nigerian politics to describe short-term food handouts intended to sway voters.

They claim that it emphasises the weaponization of poverty ahead of big elections.
