A young Nigerian military commander ignited outrage online after speaking out about the hardships soldiers are currently facing, confessing that he has pondered leaving the service entirely.
In a popular video published on X (previously Twitter), the soldier expressed anger with the difficulty he and many of his comrades purportedly face, claiming that the situation has grown unbearable.
“The way I am seeing it, na to run comot for this job go back to my village na him remain. Maybe go learn tailoring, plumbing or mechanic.”
The soldier stated that many people may not comprehend what military troops go through on a daily basis, and that their lives have gotten increasingly harsh.
He also urged Nigerians to be nice anytime they saw soldiers in need, adding that many of them are facing tremendous hardships behind the scenes.
“If any soldier beg you for money this period, please give them. It’s not easy for them this period. E tough for them now because they are going through a lot.”
The video elicited conflicting reactions online, with some Nigerians sympathising with the soldier and others questioning the level of welfare and support offered to military troops.
Many social media users also urged the authorities to improve the living circumstances of security personnel who risk their lives to defend the country.
