Taiwo Hassan, also known as Ogogo, a veteran Nollywood actor, has reportedly died after battling stage four cancer.
The 66-year-old Yoruba actor’s alleged death comes just days after his daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, requested immediate medical attention for their father, explaining that he was battling severe cancer and required specialised therapy.
Earlier on August 18, the family dismissed allegations that the actor had died, labelling them as fake.
However, on Sunday, August 23, his daughter, Kira, reportedly broke down during an Instagram Live session to announce her father’s death.
The development follows a painful period for the actor’s family, who had sought medical attention as his health deteriorated. His daughters had contacted cancer specialists, hospitals, and medical professionals to help with his treatment.
Ogogo’s illness sparked an outpouring of solidarity from colleagues and well-wishers throughout the Yoruba film industry.
The family allegedly received over 500 offers of medical, spiritual, and other sorts of assistance while efforts to help the veteran actor proceeded.
Several famous Yoruba actors and filmmakers gathered in Lagos on Friday to pray for the actor as he battles the sickness.
Ogogo was one of the most well-known figures in Yoruba cinema, with a career spanning decades and appearances in various Nigerian films.
