US warship hit by two missiles near Hormuz Strait, Iran claims

The United States has dismissed reports from Iranian state-linked media claiming that a U.S. Navy frigate was hit by two missiles near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday.

According to reports published by Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency, the alleged attack reportedly occurred near the port city of Jask at the southern entrance of the strategic waterway, with claims that the American vessel was forced to retreat.

However, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) quickly denied the claims, describing the reports as false and insisting that no U.S. Navy ship had been struck.

CENTCOM also stated that American forces remain active in the region as part of “Project Freedom,” an initiative reportedly launched by Donald Trump to escort international commercial vessels through the tense waterways amid the ongoing standoff with Iran.

The latest claims came shortly after Tehran reportedly warned foreign navies against operating in the area. Tensions have continued to rise following Trump’s announcement on Truth Social that the U.S. would begin guiding ships from neutral countries through the restricted maritime routes.

Reports indicate that the “Project Freedom” operation involves thousands of service members, guided-missile destroyers, and military aircraft, as both Washington and Tehran continue opposing naval measures in the region, increasing fears of a possible direct military confrontation.
