The United States has moved to reinforce its military presence in the Middle East, deploying thousands of Marines alongside an amphibious assault ship amid escalating regional tensions.

The deployment followed fresh threats and disruptions to shipping routes by Iran in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. defense officials said the amphibious assault ship, part of a Marine Expeditionary Unit, will carry helicopters, fighter aircraft, and amphibious vehicles, enhancing rapid-response capabilities both at sea and on land.

Pentagon sources described the move as defensive, aimed at deterring further escalation while reassuring allies in the region.
