“Until you are married, you are single…” – Man causes buzz online

A man has sparked debate online after posting his thoughts on relationships and why he believes people are still “single” no matter how serious their relationships appear.

Okezie Ekugo’s post on Facebook stirred debate, with many users commenting to his description of various relationship stages.

The man contended that regardless of level of commitment, engagement, or family connection, a person remains unmarried until marriage is officially completed.

He cited many circumstances he believes people mistake for meaningful partnerships, claiming they nonetheless fall under “single status.”

He went on to categorise relationships in a satirical but critical manner, including engagement, long-term dating, and even circumstances including families and shared obligations.

According to him, living together, getting engaged, or being officially recognised as a partner does not change one’s status until marriage.

Read his words below:

“UNTIL YOU ARE MARRIED, YOU ARE SINGLE. SINGLE IS SINGLE.

We just got engaged (Single)
I live with my boyfriend (Still Single)
We have been together for 5 years (Super Single)
He has credit in my name (Very stupid Single)
I call his mother and she calls me also (Desperate Single)
I stay at his place (Nonsense Single)
He posts my pictures on social media and uses my picture as his DP (First class idiotic single)
He comes to my house every day (End of discussion single)
We have done introduction and my boyfriend travelled abroad (Living in bond age single)
All his family know I am his future wife (You can never get sense in life single)
He has brought groceries to my family since last year (Very much single)
All his friends call me ‘our wife’ (Aunty you are extremely single)
Family

Don’t be deceived pls!”
