Two candidates, parent arrested for falsifying UTME scores with AI — JAMB.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has arrested two candidates and a parent for allegedly manipulating the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results with artificial intelligence and other computerised tools.

The board made this announcement on Friday, April 17, while revealing the results of 632,788 candidates who took the exam on Thursday, April 16.

According to JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, the individuals were nabbed for fabricating or altering scores using official SMS result announcements in order to deceive parents, guardians, and members of the public.

“Currently, two candidates and one parent are in custody for engaging in result falsification using AI and other electronic means,” the statement said.

Benjamin described the act as a serious criminal crime and stated that the board would guarantee that all those involved face the full force of the law.

He also warned candidates against tampering with the results messages delivered via JAMB’s official SMS platforms, 55019 and 66019.

The board urged candidates who took the exam on Thursday to check their results by submitting UTMERESULT by SMS to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number associated with their registration.
