Trinity Rodman, a forward for the Washington Spirit, agreed to a three-year contract extension with her team on Thursday, setting a new standard in women’s football and becoming the highest-paid female athlete worldwide.

After her prior contract expired on December 31, 2025, the 23-year-old daughter of NBA great Dennis Rodman became a free agent.

According to reports, her new contract keeps her with Washington Spirit through 2028 and pays her $2 million annually, including performance bonuses.

Aitana Bonmati, a midfielder for Barcelona who won the Ballon d’Or three times between 2023 and 2025, was the highest-paid female football player prior to this transfer.

“Trinity is a generational player, but more importantly, she represents the future of this club and the future of women’s soccer,” Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang said.

She has earned 47 caps for the United States since making her debut in 2022 and has scored 11 goals, including three at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, when Team USA won gold.

The agreement complies with the NWSL’s new “High Impact Player” regulation, which went into effect in December 2025 and permits teams to pay exceptional players up to $1 million more than the $3.5 million salary ceiling.

Rodman termed the agreement a “monumental and game-changing moment” in her career and hailed it as “amazing.”

Her deal highlights both the NWSL’s rising international stature and the growing financial appreciation of female football talent.
