“Tinubu’s enemies sponsoring insecurity to discredit Nigeria’s democracy” — Akpabio

Godswill Akpabio has alleged that individuals opposed to the success of President Bola Tinubu are sponsoring insecurity across the country in an attempt to undermine Nigeria’s democracy.

Akpabio made the remarks on Saturday, June 13, in Abuja during the public presentation of three books celebrating the 84th birthday of former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar, including the former leader’s autobiography.

Speaking at the event, Akpabio commended Abdulsalami Abubakar for his role in Nigeria’s democratic journey. He highlighted the former military leader’s decision to oversee a transition programme that culminated in the handover of power to Olusegun Obasanjo on May 29, 1999, a milestone that ushered in Nigeria’s current democratic era.

Abdulsalami Abubakar assumed office in June 1998 following the d3ath of former military ruler Sani Abacha. Since leaving office, he has remained active in peacebuilding and mediation efforts across Africa and currently serves as chairman of the National Peace Committee.

Akpabio also assured the former Head of State that the current administration, alongside security agencies, is committed to tackling the country’s security challenges and preserving democratic stability.
