TikTokker ends her life after battling Alzheimer’s disease

Rebecca Luna, the TikTok creator who openly documented her journey with young-onset Alzheimer’s disease, has d!ed at the age of 49.

Luna, from Victoria, Canada, chose to end her life through medical aid in d!ying on July 25. Days before her passing, she shared an emotional farewell video with her followers, explaining that she had decided to move her planned d3ath date forward because her condition was progressing much faster than expected and she wanted to maintain control over her future.

She was surrounded by her loved ones, including her eldest daughter, Maya, at the time of her passing.

Rebecca was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2025 at the age of 48. The condition, which affects people under the age of 65, often develops in individuals in their 40s or 50s. Following her diagnosis, she chose to document her experience on TikTok, raising awareness about the disease for her more than 95,000 followers.

She previously revealed that before her diagnosis, she lived a fast-paced life but began noticing troubling symptoms, including confusion at work, severe forgetfulness, impaired executive function and dangerous safety lapses, such as accidentally leaving the stove switched on.

After undergoing medical testing, doctors reportedly estimated she had another five to seven years before experiencing significant cognitive decline.

However, her condition deteriorated far more rapidly than anticipated. By July, Luna disclosed that the disease had already “taken so much” from her.

In her farewell video, she described living in a body that “doesn’t feel comfortable, safe, good, nothing,” explaining that this influenced her decision to move forward with her planned assisted d!ying date.

Following her passing, her family shared a statement on her TikTok page, writing:

“Rebecca passed away July 25th at approximately 1:15 p.m. surrounded by her loved ones. Thank you for your support and privacy.”

Luna’s story has touched many around the world, with thousands paying tribute to her courage, honesty and efforts to raise awareness about young-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
