A Nigerian man has sparked conversations online after expressing concern over schoolchildren leaving home as early as 5:30 a.m. to attend school, questioning whether their sacrifices will eventually lead to the better future they have been promised.
In a video shared on X, formerly Twitter, the man said he was surprised to see several school buses entering his estate early in the morning to pick up pupils.
“This is just 5:30 a.m., and school buses are already entering my estate to pick up kids,” he said.
As he continued recording, the man expressed further surprise as additional school buses arrived one after another to collect children waiting with their parents.
“Another school bus is coming. See another one, and another one. That one has picked up the children and left, and another one is coming,” he added.
Beyond his surprise at the early morning school runs, the man raised concerns about the sacrifices children make in pursuit of education and the uncertainty that may await them after graduation.
He reflected on the promises of a brighter future that he said his generation had grown up hearing, questioning whether today’s children would ultimately enjoy the opportunities they were working so hard to obtain.
The man lamented that pupils were waking up before dawn and beginning their school journeys at 5:30 a.m., yet completing their education did not guarantee employment or the future they hoped to achieve.
His observations have drawn attention to broader concerns about the relationship between education, employment and opportunities for young Nigerians.
While education remains an important pathway to personal development and career advancement, the man’s comments reflect worries about whether the effort and sacrifices invested in schooling will translate into meaningful opportunities later in life.
His video has also prompted reflection on the expectations placed on children from an early age and the future awaiting them after years of academic commitment.
