A woman has ignited conversations on social media after describing how she broke her relationship with her boyfriend due to misplaced priorities in financial assistance and emotional care.

A viral post on Friday told the story of a lady who demanded a pair of slippers worth ₦11,000 after months of financial struggles.

According to the account, her partner told her that he wasn’t making any money because of her, only to subsequently support a birthday vacation to Ghana.

“I told him to buy me slippers of ₦11k because I was broke and had been wearing one slippers to visit him for months. He noticed but did nothing, so I gathered courage to ask him, only for him to tell me he wasn’t making money because of me,” the lady said.

“The following month was my birthday, and he bought us a ticket to Ghana. We celebrated and had a nice time, but when I got back, I broke up with him because there was no point doing big things for me if he couldn’t grant the little I asked for,” she added.

Similar relationship arguments erupted in Nigeria in 2023 and 2024, when social media users debated whether consistent modest acts of support are more important than spectacular gestures in maintaining strong relationships.
