A Nigerian woman, Onyedeke Chidinma, has sparked discussion after suggesting that couples who frequently share the happy moments of their marriage online for validation often separate sooner than those who keep their relationships private.

Using her own experience as an example, Chidinma recalled a time when she regularly posted positive updates about her husband and marriage on social media.

She explained that although her marriage appeared perfect to outsiders, the reality behind closed doors was different, as the relationship was plagued by frequent arguments, misunderstandings, and conflicts.

“I have been on this social media for so long and I have noticed a pattern,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

“Couple that share their happy moments, memories, lifestyle, love online, end up breaking up, divorcing or tearing apart after a few years.

“It is as if the online happy couples their happiness is short lived.

“I remember a time when I would come online to happily share things about my husband and my marriage, those were the period we recorded high rate of quarreling and misunderstanding in our marriage.

What am I trying to say? Dear happy couple, take your marriage, children and family away from social media, people can’t destroy what they don’t see.

Not every happy comment you see is actually happy for you, many are witches behind keypads. Be careful!!!!.”
