Previously, LIB reported that former Director of Defence Information, Major-General Rabe Abubakar (Rtd), was declared dead while in the custody of bandits following weeks of captivity.

The Katsina State Government acknowledged his death in a statement.

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, the retired Major-General was going to Katsina with his wife, Amina Abubakar, and their driver, Abdullahi Sa’idu, when their vehicle was attacked on the Marabar Musawa-Kafinsoli Road in the Matazu Local Government Area.
