A dad has described how, just weeks before exams, a routine call from his daughter’s school purportedly revealed that a portion of the money he supplied for her school fees had been redirected, leaving the child’s expenses unpaid.
The father claims that his wife told him that their daughter’s tuition was ₦180,000.
He said that since she intended to pay the tuition on her way to work, he paid her the money right away. Later, she provided him what looked to be a payment receipt with the school’s logo.
But approximately three weeks later, he received a call from the school informing him that his daughter had been returned home due to unpaid costs. He was asked to send the receipt for verification by the bursar.
The individual said that the school later told him that the transaction reference could not be located in its payment system and that the receipt was not authentic.
He said, “I was going to replace the money before you found out.”
According to him, his wife later admitted using ₦110,000 of the money and showed him several identical wrappers, explaining, “Our women’s August meeting uniform. I couldn’t be the only one without it.”
The dad claimed that the revelation altered his viewpoint and that what had been prioritised over their daughter’s education was now the problem rather than merely the lost money.
He further stated that he had requested his wife return the ₦110,000 and would henceforth pay school tuition straight to the institution. He claims that despite her calling him “a wicked man,” he stuck to his conviction.
Since then, the incident has sparked a lot of discussion on social media about the value of putting children’s education first and financial trust in marriage.
