E. A. Adeboye has advised women to be wary of men who rely heavily on excessive flattery, warning that such behaviour can sometimes be deceptive.
While speaking during a sermon, the cleric shared a personal experience from his younger years, recalling how he once used poetic and charming compliments to impress a woman.
According to him, the woman unexpectedly walked away during the conversation — a reaction he said he only fully understood later after he became born again.
Pastor Adeboye explained that constant praise centered mainly on a woman’s physical appearance could serve as a warning sign, urging women to avoid encouraging such advances and instead distance themselves from situations they find questionable.
“I was a bad boy before I got born again. Something happened I only understood after I became born again. There was this very very beautiful lady and I was making some plans. I said hello lady and she smiled of course. The next thing I said your teeth are as white as snow and she smiled further. Then looking at your eyes is like taking a look at full moon. My oh my. Your skin is polished Ebony.
All of a sudden she did something strange. She turned round and began to run. I said what’s wrong with you? Why are you running.
Now I know. The Bible says flee. When a brother comes and begins to talk about your b0dy l!ke catfish in water. This and that, run….”
