A man has talked about how, years later, he is still impacted by a church’s decision to reject his parents’ marriage after learning that his mother was pregnant before to their wedding.

The man said that his mother was already two months pregnant when they went to the church to formalise their union, and that his parents had become pregnant with him prior to getting married.

He claims that his mother was forced to return to her parents and raise the boy without his father after the church committee discovered she was pregnant and declined to marry the pair.

He claimed that two years later, his father went back to the same church and got married “properly,” which has made things very challenging for him.

Despite supposedly being mostly absent from his childhood and offering little assistance, the man said that his father now preaches about God’s love on television.

He said, “Makes me want to throw up, I don’t like being around him. Not hate exactly I just grew up with only my mum, he wasn’t there and barely helped.”

He further described the emotions he experiences whenever he sees his father, saying, “Every time I see his face I get this mix of anger and emptiness I still don’t know why I feel like that after all these years.”

As he thot back on the incident, the man wondered why his parents, who were supposedly already prepared to assume parental responsibilities, were kept from getting married.

He asked, “At what point does pregnancy stop two people who already want to take responsibility from getting married? What was the church protecting?”

Religious regulations, premarital pregnancy, family responsibilities, and the long-term effects of decisions made by religious institutions on families and children have all been called into question by the story.
