In a remarkable display of integrity amid Nigeria’s persistent battle against drug trafficking, operatives from the Nigeria Police Force’s Zone 2 Command have dismantled a sophisticated syndicate, seizing a massive consignment of suspected “Canadian Loud” valued at ₦7.8 billion while rejecting a staggering ₦500 million bribe.
The operation, which unfolded in an upscale estate in Mende, Maryland, Lagos, followed months of intelligence-led surveillance. On May 19, officers from the Special Protection Unit (SPU), working alongside divisional detectives, raided an apartment linked to Eke Henry Ifeanyi, identified as the alleged kingpin. Hundreds of bags of the high-grade cannabis, popularly known as “Canadian Loud,” were recovered from the scene.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olohundare Jimoh, who addressed journalists at the location, revealed that during the raid, the suspect attempted to bribe the SPU commander with ₦500 million to abandon the operation and allow his associates to relocate the drugs. The offer was swiftly rejected and documented, highlighting a refreshing commitment to duty.
“The professionalism shown here is exactly what we expect,” AIG Jimoh stated, crediting strategic guidance from Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu. The IGP himself praised the team, noting that such actions help rebuild public trust in the force.
This bust comes at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with the influx of potent synthetic and imported drugs fueling addiction, crime, and youth vulnerability across major cities. “Canadian Loud,” prized for its potency in underground markets, has become a lucrative but destructive commodity for traffickers.
