Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have arrested Manaseh Bitrus Jatau in connection with the alleged d3ath of his girlfriend, Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah, 35, in Kaduna.

According to the police, a report was received on September 5 after the lifeless body of Jeremiah was reportedly found along Mai Angwa Street, Romi, with cotton wool stuffed in her nose.

Detectives from the Romi Outstation reportedly visited the scene and rushed the woman to St. Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, Kaduna, where a medical doctor confirmed her d3ad.

The police said her remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Suspect allegedly traced to workplace

Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that Jatau was the last person to call the deceased and invite her to meet him at Ebano Joint, Romi.

The suspect was subsequently traced to his place of work at Tomato Jos Company in the Maraban Jos area of Kaduna, where he was arrested.

During interrogation, the police alleged that Jatau confessed to having a fight with Jeremiah in his room over a phone call from another woman, which allegedly resulted in her d3ath.

The suspect also allegedly confessed to dumping her body in an open field close to his residence in an attempt to conceal the incident.

Police investigation ongoing

Confirming the arrest, the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the suspect remains in police custody.

He added that the case is being investigated and would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The circumstances surrounding the woman’s d3ath remain subject to the ongoing police investigation, and the allegations against the suspect have not been established in court.
