A pregnant lady in Ghana has asked authorities to release her husband from prison after he was sentenced to six years for beating her.

The woman, 22-year-old Priscilla Sackey, said she never anticipated the case to finish with her husband in prison for so long.

Her spouse, Richard Adjei, is currently serving a jail sentence following allegations of domestic violence.

According to Priscilla, the incident began when she reported Richard to the police for allegedly beating her.She stated that the report was intended to intimidate him and halt the abuse, not to have him imprisoned.

She explained that when the cops arrived to arrest him, Richard was not home. However, when he returned and learned that she had reported him, he allegedly attacked her again.

Priscilla claims her aunt became enraged after learning about the recurring abuse and wanted to pursue the matter further.

The aunt apparently filed another complaint with authorities, which resulted in Richard’s arrest and prosecution.The court later found him guilty and sentenced him to six years in prison.

During an interview with Crime Check, Priscilla revealed that her husband had previously been abusive. However, she stated that she still requires his presence and support as she prepares to raise their child.

The young woman further stated that the issue has worsened because both her own family and her husband’s relatives had abandoned her.

Priscilla noted that if her husband was available, he could at least work and help provide for their child.

“At least if Richard were here, he would be working and helping to take care of us. Please help me get him released,” she pleaded.
